Advisory Board

Ronald C. Walker:

Ronald C. Walker, is the newest member of the Northwest magazine Advisory Board. Ron is a consultant specializing in both consumer and B2B marketing, and all management areas of publishing. Clients: Orange Coast Magazine, Birder Magazine (pending start up), First Insure (insurance news) Jackson Marketing (direct mail), Kiplingers, Palm Coast Data (fulfillment), American Saver Magazine (start-up). Ron was formerly the Publisher, Smithsonian Magazine and Air & Space/Smithsonian Magazine, 1991-2001. Smithsonian Magazine is one of the 25 largest consumer magazines in the U.S. Air & Space/Smithsonian is the official publication of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Ron was responsible for all areas of publishing. Prior to that, Ron was General Manager, Sunset Magazine, 1967-1991. Sunset is the second largest regional magazine in the U.S., covering the subjects of food, building, gardening and travel. Ron held positions of Research Director, Marketing Director, and V.P. Circulation Director. As General Manager, was directly responsible for all of the areas of editorial, advertising, circulation and manufacturing.

Samuel R. Kyle:

Sam Kyle is a real estate developer/investor who has been in the development, construction and property management business for thirty-five years.  For the last twenty-five years he has been the owner and president of Kyle Development Company, Inc., a commercial real estate development and investment company that he founded in 1982. Mr. Kyle began his business by buying and restoring old buildings.  In more recent years, he has built and retained several office buildings in the Seattle area.  He has owned the historic Mount Baker Block Building in Port Townsend for over twenty years and has been an active participant in the Port Townsend community.  Mr. Kyle helped found Mariner Bank and served on its boardof directors for three years, until the bank was successfully sold in 2006.  He continues to incorporate his broad knowledge and experience as a business owner and developer to successfully manage his investments.

Jack Orr:

Jack Orr is an attorney at law who has been in private practice since 1981 with emphasis in securities law. Mr. Orr is a graduate of the Seattle University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Washington. He was formerly staff counsel for the Washington State Securities Division.  Jack has served as securities and/or general counsel for a number of companies. Some of his clients have included Tully’s Coffee Corporation, Silver Lake Winery and Seattle Funding Group Ltd.

Elton Welke:

Elton Welke's career includes serving as Publisher of Microsoft Press from 1990 to 1998, Travel Editor of Better Homes and Gardens, Managing Editor of Apartment Life Magazine, and Senior Editor of Sunset Magazine. He is the author and/or editor of 12 books, including Places to Go with Children around Puget Sound. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mr. Welke was vice president of Livingston and Company Advertising, Seattle and San Francisco, where his clients included Chevron, First Interstate Bank, Aldus Corp., Microsoft, and Pacific Northwest Bell.  Mr. Welke presently serves on the board of directors of Northwave Communications, Inc. Alaska and Smart Starters, LLC, Seattle. He is vice chairman of IBEX Media LLC., Beijing, China.

S Douglas Woodward:

S Douglas Woodward, Acting CFO. Currently CEO of Smart Starters Management Corp. Served as CEO for Web3000, has completed several large financings as CFO for Who’s Calling Inc., CFO for 180solutions Inc. (now Zango). Former Partner of Ernst & Young LLP. Co-founder of Microsoft Consulting Services. Northeast Regional Manager, Oracle Professional Services.
